Now through November 15, Doylestown is encouraging residents and businesses to help protect migrating birds by turning off or dimming unnecessary outdoor-facing lights from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Millions of birds migrate at night, using natural light and the night sky to help navigate their journeys. Artificial lighting can disorient birds, increasing the risk of exhaustion and window collisions.
By simply turning off unnecessary lights overnight, we can help birds safely continue their journey south while also reducing light pollution in our community.
Supporting Darker Skies in Doylestown Township & the Doylestown Community
Protecting the night sky is also something Doylestown Township has been working toward locally. The Township's Dark Sky Ordinance establishes outdoor lighting standards designed to reduce excessive and unnecessary light, limit glare and light trespass, and promote responsible outdoor lighting.
