New Parks & Recreation Community Center
The Doylestown Township Board of Supervisors are excited to announce plans for the Township’s Community and Recreation Center, which will also include the transformation of Field 1 in Central Park into tennis, basketball, and pickle ball courts. The Community and Recreation Center will be situated next to the Township Building where the current tennis and basketball courts are located. Currently, the Township has no indoor public recreation facility. This new facility will include a gym, three multi-purpose rooms, and a large patio that overlooks Central Park.
Stay tuned for more information soon as we move forward on the construction of the Community Recreation Center!
In October 2020, the Board of Supervisors contracted with MKSD Architects and sub-contractor Ballard*King Associates to conduct a
feasibility study for a new Multi-use Community Recreation Center. The purpose of the study was to assess relevant project details for the facility, including factors such as programming needs and options, development costs, soft costs and future operational and site requirements. A report on solar and geothermal energy initiatives were also included as part of the study.
*Footnote: This study was done during 2020 and some of the projected assumptions from the study may need to be adjusted based upon current economic conditions. Supervisor Nancy Santacecilia wanted to note that she does not believe her statements that are in the appendix of the feasibility study accurately reflect her comments.
The Township recently received notification that we were awarded a grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) for $1 million for the construction of the Community Recreation Center. We are thankful to our State Senator Steve Santarsiero and State Representative Shelby Labs for their assistance in obtaining this funding. The RACP is an extremely competitive grant program and we are very fortunate to receive this funding for this project.
The capital campaign is currently under development and will be posted here.
There will be several giving opportunities available for the new recreation community center. For additional information please contact Karen Sweeney, Director of Parks & Recreation at firstname.lastname@example.org or Stephanie Mason, Township Manager at sjmason@doylestownpa,org.
