Beginning this spring you will see Crown Castle a provider of shared wireless network infrastructure install 11 facilities in the Township’s public right of way on wood utility poles. This technology is often referred to as a Distributed Antenna System (“DAS”). DAS equipment is now permitted due to a ruling by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Public Utility Commission (PUC) this past fall. The purpose of this system is to off-load the hand held phone data traffic from the overall cellular network. This enhanced network will enable a wireless device to deliver faster download speeds and improved access to public safety services like enhanced 911. The DAS equipment being installed in the Township is part of a larger project Crown Castle is doing in Bucks County.
